McLean Kabwe is a Zambian human rights advocate and public health specialist. His work in the HIV and Human rights field stretch from 2008 and during which he has been working on issues of access to health services for the most at-risk populations, the stigma and discrimination against them, and stakeholders engagement. This experience was instrumental in his position as KP Advisor seconded to National AIDS Council under the USAID Open Doors Project from 2017-2021. From 2020 to date, he has worked on three PEPFAR funded KP projects through TLI as a local implementing partner and which provided comprehensive HIV prevention, treatment, and care services to key populations in 8 districts in Zambia. Currently is the Vice Chair of the Zambia Key Populations Consortium and a member of the Program Advisory Panel for the Robert Carr Network Fund.
Trained Researcher with analytical mind and attention to detail. Has profound knowledge and experience in working with key populations, diverse identities and queers people to improve and promote their equitable access and utilisation of health and social services in Zambia. Academic qualifications in Computer Science and Human Rights: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity/Expression.
A young woman passionate and committed to meaningful youth engagement and empowerment and embraces diversity, equity and inclusion. She believes strongly in the power of youth voices in advancing the HIV awareness and advocacy agenda and promoting choice as well as increasing options for youth especially AGYWs in HIV prevention. She has co-authored abstracts and manuscripts to share qualitative findings about AGYW's preferences for PrEP methods and their parents/male partners’ role in PrEP support and contributed to the development of National Pre and Post exposure Prophylaxis Guidelines and CAB-PrEP implementation plan in Zambia. She currently works as a Prevention Program Assistant and Youth representative (NextGen Squad member -NGS) for Zambia under the MOSAIC project led by FHI 360. She is also an HIV Prevention Ambassador and trainer and a South-to-South Learning Network (SSLN) AGYW champion.
